Love From Heckerty

Let Freedom and Fireworks Ring!

Don’t you just love a large, colorful explosion?
Of fireworks I mean, not the kind that usually happens when I try to cook.
I love fireworks and in America this month I was reminded me of how lovely bursts of light can be.

Zanzibar, on the other hand, hated every minute of the Fourth of July. With each pop, bang and boom he slunk farther and farther under the bed, curled into a black fluffy ball of fear. I kept trying to tell him fireworks aren’t scary, they’re fun, and if handled properly by professionals, they’re completely safe.

But right as he started to inch out from his safety corner, the Grand Finale arrived and the noise was so deafening and lights so bright that Zanzibar shrieked and fled back to the dark safety of being under our friends’ bed.

I gave up on Zanz and headed outside for my least and most favorite part of any fireworks show. I love the giant flashes all happening at once, but I’m sad knowing they mean the excitement is almost over.

And that’s when I had a heck of a Heckerty idea!

What if the fireworks shows never had to end? What if I traveled from country to country, celebrating their independence days watching every fireworks show I could find?So for the month of July, I’ll be flying upside down on my broomstick around the world, visiting as many countries as possible. I’ll post their flags on my Twitter and Facebook pages and see if you can guess where I am that day.

We’ll start with an easy one today here on the blog. Can you guess what country it is?
