Twelve Witches Chanting

Twelve Witches Chanting
And now here is the full song!

On the 12th day of Christmas, Zanzibar gave me:
Twelve witches chanting,
Eleven wizards flying,
Ten spells a casting,
Nine spiders weaving.
Eight cats a howling.
Seven bats a squeaking.
Six cauldrons boiling,
Five magic wands,
Four hooting owls,
Three blind mice,
Two jumping frogs,
And a sardine prepared for my tea.

Today, I’m giving YOU something!
From the witches in Spellbound.
Listen to it here!

Merry Christmas!

Thank you all for coming to Heckerty’s Twelve Days of  Christmas and that you enjoyed the crafts as much as we did. Crafts are a great way for families to get together and make things and so watch this space because Heckerty and Zanzibar will be crafting and baking again for Valentine’s Day. And now – as they say – we resume normal programing and Heckerty will be back tomorrow with her usual blog!

Eleven Wizards Flying

“On the 11th day of Christmas, Zanzibar gave me:

Eleven wizards flying,

Ten spells a casting,

Nine spiders weaving.

Eight cats a howling.

Seven bats a squeaking.

Six cauldrons boiling,

Five magic wands –

Four hooting owls.

Three blind mice,

Two jumping frogs,

And a sardine prepared for my tea.”

11 Wizards Flying

11 Wizards Flying

Making these flying wizards is great fun, and MUCH, MUCH easier than it looks! And this is the best time of year to do it, because Michael’s and the craft stores have lots of Christmas ornaments that you can decorate.

What would be fabulous would be to make a whole flock of flying wizards, and make them so they represent all  of us – African American, Latino, Indian, South East Asian, Native American, Inuit, Pacific Islanders and of course women and kids! In Spellbound, we’d LOVE to see that! So if anyone does this, please send us a picture and we’ll send you something special to say GREAT!

What you need:

  • 2″ round plain glass tree ornament
  • Flesh colored acrylic paint
  • Sheet of blue foam
  • White yarn
  • Thin wire for spectacles
  • White paint
  • Black paint
  • Yellow paint

Directions:

  • Pour some flesh colored acrylic paint into the ornament.
  • Swirl it round until the inside of the ornament is completely covered in paint.
  • Set the ornament to dry with the top pointing down so that unused paint drips out.
  • When the ornament is dry inside, decorate it to look like a wizard.
  • Don’t forget some white paint around the mouth for a beard.
  • And then some wire for the eyeglasses.
  • Make a wizard’s hat from the blue foam.
  • Add yellow stars to the hat!
  • Glue lengths of white yarn to the bottom of the hat
  • Then glue the hat and the hair onto the head!
